Porch Projects Presents: A Nest, a Shell, a Corner, a Drawer

"We comfort ourselves by reliving memories of protection."

"A nest—and this we understand right away—is a precarious thing, and yet it sets us to daydreaming of security."

-Gaston Bachelard, The Poetics of Space

Porch Projects' inaugural show brings together the work of three artists working in the Washington region: Kendall Nordin (DC), Leigh Davis (DC/NYC), and Magnolia Laurie (Baltimore).  These artists explore the creation of makeshift or provisional structures and dwellings through diverse media, from painting and photography to installation.  They are interested in adaptive ways of existing in the world and in the idea of "home," wherever it can be found.

Opening Reception: February 26, 2011, 4-7 pm
Closing Discussion Group: March 31, 7 pm
Open by appointment at other times.
